Electricity
The Owners Corporation at The Park Apartments is an Embedded Electrical Network (EEN) site, which means the whole complex can access significantly cheaper electricity. b.energy was contracted by the Owners Corporation to manage the supply and distribution for the complex. The agreement also contains a provision for all residents (owners and renters) to obtain discounted electricity prices, if they so desire.
Interested residents should call ‘b.energy’ on 1300 761 390.
What is an Embedded Network?
An Embedded Network can be established in properties that contain multiple tenancies. A “gate” meter is installed between the incoming electricity supply from the street and the main distribution board for the site to record all incoming electricity to the building. b.energy then purchase electricity at the “gate” meter at a discounted rate due to the volume being purchased and on-sell the energy to the Owners Corporation for the common areas and residents, at a significantly discounted rate.
What is on-selling?
b.energy acts as an intermediary, purchasing electricity through one consolidated account to meet the needs of all the participating residents and common areas at the site. b.energy then sells the electricity to each resident on the basis of the resident’s actual meter readings – this is called “on-selling”.
What is different for residents?
Not much changes except invoices are issued by b.energy and residents save money. The on-selling offer is generally the best tariff available on the market and the Embedded Network operator provides cheaper electricity and superior customer service to our residents. Customers you have the right to choose their electricity retailer due to market rules. Consumer rights are covered by the Energy Retail Code and strictly enforced by b.energy’s compliance team.
Who is b.energy?
b.energy is a specialist supplier of electricity to multi-unit developments. They operate embedded networks across Australia. They not only act as the retailer and distributor for our site, they also take on the role of energy manager which assists with lowering the costs and consumption for our site.
What are the benefits of an Embedded Network?
There are benefits to owners, managers and residents in the form of cheaper electricity, easier management of electricity issues, greater flexibility in electricity relationships and opportunities to further reduce costs by introducing energy saving measures. Embedded Networks can also minimise the impact of any future electricity price increases by offering the best available rates.
Do I have the right to choose an energy retailer?
Yes, all electricity customers within b.energy Embedded Networks have the ability to choose their energy retailer and type of contract or energy plan.
Why do I get two bills if I choose not to join b.energy?
b.energy has been contracted by the Owners Corporation at The Park Apartments to manage the supply and distribution for the complex. Should residents elect to select another retailer then you will receive two bills. More information is available here. The bill from your retailer is for the cost of the energy you use (e.g. kWh). The bill from b.energy is for the distribution costs associated with getting the electricity to your apartment. Prior to the Embedded Network being installed, this component of the bill was passed through from the distributor onto the retailer's bill and bundled to give you a single electricity cost. As b.energy is not a distributor, they are not able to incorporate these costs on to your retailer’s bill, so it is split in to two. Residents will not be charged any more than if they were still receiving one bill from an existing retailer.
How often will I receive bills from b.energy?
b.energy issues bills every month. Your b.energy bill will state the date of the next scheduled meter reading for your apartment. You can expect to receive your b.energy bill 1 to 2 weeks after the date of the meter reading. Bills will always be based on actual meter reads, never estimates.
What tariff am I on?
The most obvious place to find your tariff is on your most recent bill. If you need assistance, please call b.energy on 1300 761 390 or email at support@benergy.net.au – please don’t forget to include your address and account details.
